RE: Seven Oaks Church of Christ facilities sale
in Sugar Land, Texas
Dear Brothers and Sisters,
We are writing to say that our building has been sold to a large
Christian academy located next door to us here in Sugar Land. As of
this date, they have assumed possession of the site. And, after 37
years as Eldridge Road Church of Christ, now Seven Oaks Church of
Christ, our remaining membership will disperse into various local
churches. When a church starts performing more funerals than
baptisms…the handwriting is on the wall…as it says in the Book.
While this is bittersweet for us, at the same moment it is a happy
time as the plans that have been formulated over the past three years
have come to fruition. It was a true blessing for us that this
congregation was basically debt free before the time of the sale. All
proceeds from the transaction have been pledged to longtime brotherhood Church of Christ works so that our spirit will linger for years
to come.
Our Chinese mission church, still lead by Brother Ephraim Huang, has
been accepted in full by the
Mission
Bend congregation, a true answer to prayers. During our
association with this band of brothers and sisters, they have
accounted for almost 200 of the 325 (plus or minus) baptisms we have
witnessed during the past 15 years. This group will be meeting each
Sunday under the direction of Whitt Herrington and the Mission Bend
members.
The food pantry and other benevolence works have been transferred to
the Impact Houston Church of Christ. Most church furnishings have been
transported to the
Hollygrove church plant in New Orleans, a project
of the
Carrollton Avenue congregation due to open by the Labor Day
weekend.
Perhaps the hardest thing we had to do was say goodbye to over 100
students, parents, and teachers of the Noah’s Rainbow School program.
This has been our premier outreach to the community for the past
12 plus years and the love and support that has been given to us by the
ones we served will be the basis of wonderful memories for many years
to come. The kind words and written testimonies have assured us that
God truly blessed this work over the years.
We want to stay in touch with our brotherhood ministers and charitable
entities so we are providing the following address for your files.
After June 30th, 2008, no mail sent to the old address will be
delivered to us.
